Summary

Single mom Jess Davis is a data and statistics wizard, but no amount of number crunching can convince her to step back into the dating world。 After all, her father was never around, her hard-partying mother disappeared when she was six, and her ex decided he wasn’t “father material” before her daughter was even born。 Jess holds her loved ones close but working constantly to stay afloat is hard。。。and lonely。

But then Jess hears about GeneticAlly, a buzzy new DNA-based matchmaking company that’s predicted to change dating forever。 Finding a soulmate through DNA? The reliability of numbers: This Jess understands。

At least she thought she did, until her test shows an unheard-of 98 percent compatibility with another subject in the database: GeneticAlly’s founder, Dr。 River Peña。 This is one number she can’t wrap her head around, because she already knows Dr。 Peña。 The stuck-up, stubborn man is without a doubt not her soulmate。 But GeneticAlly has a proposition: Get ‘to know him and we’ll pay you。 Jess—who is barely making ends meet—is in no position to turn it down, despite her skepticism about the project and her dislike for River。 As the pair are dragged from one event to the next as the “Diamond” pairing that could launch GeneticAlly’s valuation sky-high, Jess begins to realize that there might be more to the scientist—and the science behind a soulmate—than she thought。

“Laugh-out-loud, sweet, charming, and humorous” (Library Journal, starred review), The Soulmate Equation proves that the delicate balance between fate and choice can never be calculated。

I sure didn’t, but Christina Lauren has a way of hooking me in。This was such a fun, interesting, sweet, and romantic book to read。 Jess was such an intelligent, caring, sweet, and kindhearted person who always put her family first such as, her daughter, Juno and her grandparents。 Jess was the type of woman who, with her freelance job as a statistician, was always trying to make ends meet, and tried to ensure that her family had everything they could possibly need。 In other words, Jess didn’t really have time for herself, even Jess was aware that she didn’t have time for herself as she previously did when she was younger and in college。 Jess was a single mother, trying to make sure Juno was always the main priority and I found that quality in Jess to be very admirable。 Jess was fun, and sweet and honestly how could you not fall in love with her?? I’d totally want to hang out with Jess and hang out in Twiggs with her and Felicity。Now, for the handsome, intelligent, talk, dark and reserved… River Pena。 Funny enough before finding out River’s name, Jess would always refer to him as “Americano”, since that was always his drink order at Twiggs, but lowkey it’s fitting for River。 At first, River kind of seemed “grumpy” in that him and Jess didn’t get off on the right foot, and not to mention his short, quiet responses to everything (which kind of annoyed Jess at first)。 Luckily as River and Jess started hanging out, going out on dates, etc。 River became more open with Jess by talking about himself, his family, and even became more affectionate with Jess。 Not to mention, I thought it was so adorable and sweet to see River and Juno grow close (my heart)。 You could tell that while both Jess and River were initially skeptical of their results being so high in being compatible with each other, they still had a connection from the start。 I loved the little moments between Jess and River from their interview/ photo shoot with River trying to keep Jess warm from the cold, to their first kiss, and subsequently second kiss after River waited in the hospital for Jess。 My hopeless romantic heart was overflowing with happiness and honestly just enjoying all the sweetness in their romance。 Now while everything was cute and romantic, there was still the underlying tension between Jess and River that was delicious to read *wink。 The passion and chemistry between River and Jess was palpable through the pages and left me wanting more! This book had fake dating, kind of grumpy man (in the beginning at least), and single mom trope。 This book made me want to get myself a geneticist boyfriend a。k。a。 River Pena。 The perfect romantic story that you normally wouldn’t think of, unique plot, and for all the hopeless romantics out there, you’ll fall in love with Jess and River。 。。。more

This was so cute and fun。 I didn’t think I would be into it with the soulmate + science thing, but it wasn’t too over the top。 I loved Jess and her family, and her friendship with Fizzy was so well done and felt very real。 Christina Lauren is definitely great at writing strong relationships of all kinds and I think whether you’re a long time reader or this is the first you pick up by them you’ll probably enjoy it!

Me ha terminado gustando este libro。 Cuanto más dejo pasar los días más me gusta。 Da gusto ver la evolución del personaje masculino: de cretino egoísta a adorable novio y padre postizo。

4。5 stars - this book was full of great characters (and of course some not so good ones as antagonists)。 I enjoyed the whole thing, just a smidge taken off (view spoiler)[not enough grovel at the end! 3。5 starsUmm…。This was mediocre perfection。 I was mediocrely invested, and even though 1/3 of the book was perfection, the rest was as you could probably guess… mediocre。I really enjoyed the plot and concept, but I couldn’t help but feel like most of the way the story had been introduced and progressed, was ruined by the ending。 Not only did it affect my opinion on the love interest, but everything that had felt so incredibly authentic, lost all its shine。 It made me second guess if the couple e 3。5 starsUmm…。This was mediocre perfection。 I was mediocrely invested, and even though 1/3 of the book was perfection, the rest was as you could probably guess… mediocre。I really enjoyed the plot and concept, but I couldn’t help but feel like most of the way the story had been introduced and progressed, was ruined by the ending。 Not only did it affect my opinion on the love interest, but everything that had felt so incredibly authentic, lost all its shine。 It made me second guess if the couple ever had any sexual and romantic tension at all。I still love the writing style, and Christina Lauren is a duo that has masterfully understood how to make a great rom com。 The ending shot itself in the foot, and the plot wasn’t my favorite, but I absolutely adored most of the characters。All in all a fun rom com, but not my favorite。Song: “Crush culture” 。。。more

oh no。。。 this book is trying so hard to be quirky + funny with the writing style but it's really just making me cringe。 i got 50 pages in before i had to quit i am so sorry this is not for me! i will acknowledge that the premise is super interesting and i would've liked to hold on if i hadn't had so many other interesting (and probably better written) things on my tbr。 tis a dnf for now :( oh no。。。 this book is trying so hard to be quirky + funny with the writing style but it's really just making me cringe。 i got 50 pages in before i had to quit i am so sorry this is not for me! i will acknowledge that the premise is super interesting and i would've liked to hold on if i hadn't had so many other interesting (and probably better written) things on my tbr。 tis a dnf for now :( 。。。more

I knew I had heard this story before。 New release in paperback。 🤦🏻‍♀️

Ok soooo I think the fact that I just read The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, which was such a slow burn, really affected how I felt about this one。 Well I thought it was a perfectly cute story the whole thing just felt very rushed to me。 There was hardly any build up to their romance。 I like a little more angst。 The story was also very predictable。 Christina Laurens books just don’t seem to be doing it for me。

This is not my kind of thing at all。 It's essentially a Harlequin Romance (for those of you old enough to remember those) with sex。 By page 5, I could see what was coming。 By page 15, I told my husband how the book would end, then I went to the end to check and I was, of course, right。 Didn't really see the need to read the next 350 pages, and had it not been that this was chosen for a book group, I wouldn't have。 Absolutely predictable down to the late crisis and happy resolution。 The premise a This is not my kind of thing at all。 It's essentially a Harlequin Romance (for those of you old enough to remember those) with sex。 By page 5, I could see what was coming。 By page 15, I told my husband how the book would end, then I went to the end to check and I was, of course, right。 Didn't really see the need to read the next 350 pages, and had it not been that this was chosen for a book group, I wouldn't have。 Absolutely predictable down to the late crisis and happy resolution。 The premise about the dating service is also not believable, but not my major gripe。I'm going to go read Pride and Prejudice now, as antidote。 。。。more

I liked this book。 I loved Juno and river。 It took a little bit for me to warm up to Jess, she definitely wasn’t my favourite in the beginning。 I liked the storyline of this book and to be honest I could have kept reading about the aftermath of their life, however I thought the conflict in the book was a little underwhelming and came to a resolution waaaaay too fast。 All in all though, an easy cheesy little read!

LM

Cute, not enough of them together to feel invested tho。 Loved the science aspect and nerdiness of both。

THIS WAS SO GOOD。 This was such a unique story line and I couldn’t finish it fast enough。 I’m convinced Christina Lauren can’t write a book I don’t love。 I hated the Jess’ mom, I’m proud that she cut her mom off but I don’t think she should have given her the money。 She saved that money for her daughter and her mom is so toxic and doesn’t care about anyone but herself。 I was disappointed that she gave in to her mom even if it would be the last time。 🌶🌶
